Selection Criteria

Scholarship awards serve two equally valuable purposes: recognition of merit and achievement, as well as provision of financial support. The allocation of scholarship funds will be balanced between awards to prospective students and awards to students already in a program. For students already in a program, scholarship funds are more likely to recognize concrete achievements during a student’s career at their school of choice and may also permit students to continue at the University/College when their financial resources might not otherwise permit them to do so.

Former scholarship recipients may not be eligible for consideration if they received a scholarship in the previous school year; in other words, scholarships may not be awarded in consecutive years.

ATTRIBUTE / 01
MANDATORY • APPLIES TO EVERY APPLICANT

Kingdom Life Member

All applicant(s) MUST be active members of this body of Christ and support the visions and goals of Kingdom Life Ministries. The scholarships awarded annually will reflect broadly on our identity as leaders in the community and various church organizations.

ATTRIBUTE / 02

Academic Merit

First-year applicants should rank at the top of their graduating class. Continuing students need a 75% average minimum, 12-credit minimum load, thoughtful course selection, and active involvement in extracurriculars.

ATTRIBUTE / 03

Creative Accomplishment

Originality and innovation in the arts, humanities, sciences, or social sciences. The committee considers writers, artists, and musicians as seriously as scientists.
ATTRIBUTE / 04

Financial Need

The committee considers how applicants are financing their education. Those applying on financial need should clearly state how many hours per week they currently work.
ATTRIBUTE / 05

Force of Character

Students who have overcome obstacles related to health, family, social, educational, or economic disadvantages are encouraged to apply — any circumstance that demonstrates strength and potential will be considered.

ATTRIBUTE / 06

Community Service

Not simply your service, but the impact your service has had on a particular individual or group. Volunteerism, service learning, field-work, or internships that show civic responsibility.

ATTRIBUTE / 07

Leadership

Demonstrated experience leading groups — teaching, training, organizing, managing, carrying responsibility on behalf of others. Being held in high regard by peers as a role model through actions and deeds.

Award Policies

The conditions and terms governing how K-LIFE Extended Hands scholarships are issued, paid, and in rare cases, returned.

1
The committee may make a unanimous decision to select only one award winner in any given year, even though 1–2 scholarships are typically awarded annually.
2
Funds may be made payable directly to the post-secondary institution the recipient is attending, in which case the payment is not made to the winner personally.
3
If a recipient decides not to study as planned without reason, the scholarship must be returned in full. If timing permits, the next applicant in line may receive it.
4
If the student should fall ill and cannot attend school, all efforts should be made by the student to obtain a refund and return any unused portion to KLM.
5
All applicants must provide the following documents prior to being eligible for scholarship consideration: High school transcripts or Current post secondary transcript
